Meet our friend Asparagopsis taxiformis Tetrasporophyte!

Now that’s a mouthful!

Let’s break down its meaning, shall we?

“Asparagopsis taxiformis” is a species of seaweed which is very rich in bromoform. This substance is under research by quite a few brilliant minds around the world, because it has the wonderful effect of decreasing the amount of methane excreted by cows when it’s incorporated into their feed.

“Tetrasporophyte” is the reproductive stage of this seaweed’s life cycle, and we affectionately refer to it as “pom-pons”.

Knowing all of the above, you’ll be glad to hear that Flying Sharks collects these wonderful pom-pons and ships them to Canada, Denmark, Sweden and Australia, in partnership with our friends from Seaexpert – Consultoria na área das Pescas.
