When Jaws meets the Cows!July 14, 2023
Busy busy days at Flying Sharks !
Here’s a shipment of 200 Bathymodiolus azoricus (mussels) which were collected by a German Research Vessel from an hydrothermal vent at 800 meters!
To ensure minimum transit time, they were packed at 4h AM in Algeciras (south of Spain) and we just learned they arrived in supreme condition to a German research institute in Kiel.
These shipments come with a lot of anxiety because, while “all animals are equal” to us, it’s one thing when shipments go wrong with some sea-stars collected from a rockpool at low tide… but it’s an entirely different scenario when it happens with super delicate animals collected from such remote locations…
Needless to say we take absolutely every precaution on ALL shipments, but we feel VERY relieved when we hear about the safe arrival of these super tricky ones!
