November 12, 2022Congratulations to Ashlie McIvor, a second-year PhD student of the University of Lisbon conducting research with MARE-Madeira (Centro de Ciências do Mar e do Ambiente).
Ashlie is deploying baited underwater cameras (BRUVs) around Madeira and Desertas Islands to assess predatory fish assemblages (e.g., sharks, rays, groupers, etc.) under various protection levels. This project represents the first quantitative study to determine the coastal shark and ray composition in Madeiran waters.
When Ashlie reached out to us, we couldn’t help but to wire her 800 euros, and following that with our traditional contributions to APECE, Loving the Planet, and Faidout.
