If you follow our news, then the name “Lénia Rato” will sound familiar…
That is because this young lady scientist has been a multiple recipient of our Research Fund, so let’s recap all of them, because it’s hard for us too to keep track of them all as well!
20-06-2019 – First shipment of crabs from the Netherlands to Lénia’s research facilty, CETEMARES, in Peniche. Our friends from De Jong Marinelife helped with the shipping and we covered the 74 euros invoice.
04-12-2019 – same deal, for 65 euros.
07-07-2021 – same deal, this time 115 euros.
02-11-2021 – same as above, for 117 euros.
20-06-2022 – Final shipment, coincidently exactly three years after the first one and the largest ever, 259 euros.
In summary, it was our absolute pleasure to fund Lénia’s PhD work with 620 euros over two years and we wish her a magnificent career! By the way, Lénia’s thesis is focusing on the ecophysiology of crab invasive species, trying to determine whether a species which is growing rampant in Northern Europe (specifically in the Netherlands), will show similar advantages in Portuguese weather.
