Flying Sharks to/from Madrid, Gran Canaria and Vienna
December 22, 2021Dear clients, suppliers, partners, and friends, we’ll start by wishing you a glorious Holiday Season and a fabulous 2022!
…and what better way to close our best year ever, than?…
… flying sharks?!
That’s right! It’s been a while since the last time we’ve done it, but this weekend we rented ourselves an aircraft and flew some sharks. More specifically, a female Rhina ancylostoma, which went from Planet Ocean (in Montpellier) to Aquário Poema del Mar (in Las Palmas), where hopefully many baby Rhinas will be the product of nature taking its course, with a little help from the local male Rhina; on our way back, we brought 4 captive bred Stegostoma fasciatum, which we then drove to Lisbon, where they flew to Vienna, so 2 of them could be transferred to Haus des Meeres and 2 to Sóstó Zoo (in Hungary).
All this right after we moved sharks in the UK, sent Asparagopsis armata to Canada, many many fish to Israel Aquarium, the brand new National Aquarium in Abu Dhabi, and soooo many others…
Meanwhile, we’ll take this time to share that our Flying Sharks Research Fund is – at 85.000 € – nearly exhausted and we need your contributions desperately! We started this in 2007 and, since then, your valuable donations have allowed us to award small grants to 118 students. But we’re probably getting too popular, and requests have been pouring in quite regularly. So far we have been able to accomodate every single one of them, but the time has come to start saying “no” to some, which is breaking our hearts… We will, of course, continue to fund those projects that we feel are simply too cool to say no to, even if it comes out of our pocket, but it would be oh so nice if you’d allow us to add a small fraction (5% or even less) to your invoices, as you have done so generously in the past. Hopefully the Xmas spirit will open your hearts – and wallets!
🙂
Speaking of “opening your wallets”, it’s no secret that not everybody enjoys the amazing life we all benefit from in Europe, North America and other parts of the World. As more horrifying news arrive from Iemen, Sudan, the Poland/Biolorrussian border, and so many other troubled locations, we thought it’s time to give back something to these communities, using a slightly different modus operandi, where we reach out to a local NGO, ask what is it they need the most, and we’ll then pack a big box (or container!) of it and ship it! We will call this the Flying Sharks Humanitarian Fund and we need your help to get it off the ground in 2022.
Moving back to fishy business, right now we’re insanely busy moving hundreds of Solea senegalensis to Italy, and we have a nice group of Chelidonichthys lucerna in stock, for the first time in many months! These will fly on a first come first served basis, so act quick!
Also, here’s a short list of those species we’ve been shipping out more regularly, but you know how to reach us for a full species list.
