Congratulations Rita Carriço, who's conducting her Ph.D. on sounds found in the deep waters of the Azores, using Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM). Using PAM, Rita evaluated seasonal and diel patterns of putative fish sounds identified in a deep-sea Azorean protected seamount, the Condor, and compared the abundance and diversity of sounds before and after the establishment of the protected area. This is such a cool project that we had to send Rita 350 euros, so she could go present her results at an international conference!
