November 2009 - After one year of moving animals wearing not much more than a t-shirt and shorts, arriving at DHL late November, in the evening, was quite a bit "chillier" (to say the least). But the good people of Portway did a fenomenal job offloading the truck, as usual, and got our minds off the cold. November 2009 - For the third time this year the Flying Sharks team arrived at the Ozeaneum with a truck filled with fish. By now the staff processed the newly arrived tanks with their eyes closed.
November 2009 - After 25 hours on the road, half-dozen Bonito Tuna (Sarda sarda) were introduced to their new quarantine tank in Stralsund. November 2009 - One of the coolest parts of this transport was seeing the Mola mola we had moved back in June. Man, those two Sunfish grew! Must be all that nutritious North Sea food!
August 2009 - Now, let's rewind a bit... Back in August we shipped some Octopus (Octopus vulgaris) to our friends from the Kattegat Centre. Strangely, they did not survive the trip, which was a very frustrating first for us... November 2009 - ...The second time around, however, we decided to have the Octopus piggy back on the shipment to Stralsund, ensuring they would have adequate water quality throughout. At the end of the Ozeaneum trip, we placed the Octopus inside three plastic drums, super-saturated them with oxygen, and drove the 625 km between Stralsund (Germany) and Grenaa (Denmark).
November 2009 - The cool thing about this trip is that the folks from Avis screwed up our reservation and we ended up being rescued by the Stralsund branch of Europcar, who were a bit surprised by our request and placed this cool set of wheels on our hands. November 2009 - So, after 55 hours on the road (Olhão > Leipzig > Stralsund > Grenaa), the three Octopus finally arrived (safely, this time!) to their new home in Denmark.
November 2009 - After a two hour acclimation period our eight-armed friends chilled out in their new home. November 2009 - And no transport is complete without a fenomenal meal at the end. This one gave João a chance to see his former student, Marta Pereira, who's been working with the folks from the Kattegat Centre for quite some time. It's looking like Marta is enjoying Denmark so much that, much like the Octopus, she might stay there for good!
