July 2009 - Live marine animal transports involve minute preparation and thouroughly testing all the pH buffering agents is an important part of the process. July 2009 - Giving all tanks a nice cleaning job is a part of the deal also. Thank God the good folks from Coris came by and gave us a hand with all that. Special thanks to Raquel Marques, Luķs Silva and Joćo Amaral, former students of Joćo's.
July 2009 - Once everything was ready, the time came to load the truck and setup filtration and oxygenation systems. July 2009 - No transport is complete without a nice meal the night before the hostilities start. This time Flying Sharks and Coris went south of the border and stuffed their faces with tacos, chilli and enchiladas.
August 2009 - Loading the DHL Boeing 757 is always the not so much fun part of the operation as, despite the rollers on the deck of the aircraft, the tanks are really heavy and it takes a few good men to push them into position. August 2009 - Landing and loading in Leipzig went without a hitch and the six hour drive to Stralsund too. Multiple water quality checks ensured all fish were doing fine also.
August 2009 - Offloading the fish at the Ozeaneum was pretty smooth also and the staff did a great job acclimating all 1.200 Scomber japonicus, 25 Sarpa salpa, 20 Chelon labrosus and 4 huge Pagrus auriga. August 2009 - Total water-to-water transport time: 30 hours.
