September 2010 - This trip started out with a really simple plan: (1) start in Peniche, at the E.S.T.M., by getting some of the ornamental fish collected in Madeira and (2) driving North to Porto. However... | September 2010 - ...It turns out we had to swing by a local boat manufacturer who was keeping two Epinephelus marginatus and one Polyprion americanus in his private tank. That job proved to be far more complex than we anticipated and we ended up having to take the tank apart to pull the fish out. |
September 2010 - The rest of the trip was pretty uneventful, despite non-stopping rain, and all fish arrived to Porto safely. | September 2010 - It wasn't long, after arrival, until all critters were swimming happily in quarantine. |
September 2010 - And, as usual, after the fish were delivered, the tanks were cleaned, and the staff showered (with the oxygen and pH probes together, also as usual), it was time to enjoy a really nice meal with our hosts Ana Ferreira (left, back) and Miguel Paiva (Joćo's former student from E.S.T.M., left, right). | September 2010 - But the really cool part about this transport was going back to Sea Life Porto, the following month, for "Portuguese Shark Week", and seeing our very own Myliobatis aquila swiming in the main exhibit. |
